THe System that CO has has gear which does NOT affect your appearance in ANY way. anything which does affect your appearance in any way has NO STATS on it. How long has it been since you actually logged on?

im guessing he's confusing the gear icon (which might occasionally look like a boot or a glove) with costume pieces.

Yea, you're definitely misunderstanding me. I am saying the exact same thing you are saying. That there is gear, which provides stats, but does not affect your appearance. However, the gear includes things that you in theory could wear, such as bracers, gloves, boots, vests, helmets. You equip it to the glove slot, the bracer slot, the boot slot, etc. But it doesn't change the appearance of your character at all, which is nonsensical. I am not saying that I want it to change the appearance, because heroes do not like to change their costumes in such a frequent and random way, but rather I am saying that because of this logical inconsistency, the concept of an article of clothing imparting a stat boost can and should be avoided, using something similar to the enhancement system in CoH. Not sure I am going to be able to explain my position another time, so please take the time to read and understand it this time.

And for the record, I logged into CO yesterday.

They are all technically things you would wear. In theory. Your character doesn't actually wear them, but you do equip them. You equip the glove to the glove slot, the boot to the boot slot, the helmet to the helmet slot, etc. So if it was logically consistent, it would change your costume, but it doesn't. So it's a nonsensical approach to stat boosts. That's my point.

they aren't "glove slots" and "boot slots"

its just Primary and Secondary Offense, Defense and Utility. but yeah, the icons do generally look like things that could be worn - why did they do that? no idea. its not like in CoX you literally wore all the badges or what ever the I/Os were meant to be on you either tho. Its just a visualization for something to chase after.

I know it's a small thing, but it would annoy me to no end. Just make them icons, not clothing.

I feel like I stumbled into a thread for the wrong game?

My personal opinion is that looks are looks and ability augmentations are ability augmentations. The two shouldn't be mixed up; this isn't Diablo. I'm opposed to the idea that a specific mob is the only mob with a chance to drop x. Special drop tables for one or two task forces is about as far as I would go.

Cosmetics are a different story; I could care less if killing Smeegoon the Malfeasant is the only way to unlock the Underoos of Destiny. But I don't want to chase gear. Otherwise I'd just go play PoE or something.

exactly. In COH I knew that I could do any 50 content or any tf and have a chance for purple drops, I could farm or street sweep, whatever. I could do the tfs every day if I wanted.

It's good, then, that the enhancement situation is going to be like CoX, rather than gear-dependent, according to the livestreams.

As to looting, I'm in agreement with some here. I'd rather some random thing from the loot table pop into my inventory than have to stop and loot stuff. It won't break things if I do have to stop and loot (if I want to). I'd just prefer not to have the hassle. I am inherently lazy. =)
