Website Direct Message

If possible, it might be useful to some folks to implement a direct message tool on the website. There may be time that people would like to share information or ask a questions with one or a few individuals without posting to the forums.

Just a thought.

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Discord. I'll have to look it up. Thanks

At some point we may add DM here but yes, Discord is the way to go right now...

HotNerd has a point though. The Discord channels appear to be way more active, and the most vocal community members have already headed over there for game/dev-related discussion.

A suggestion to SilverHelm to pick one venue and stick with it; on the internet, the medium *is* the community, so splitting discussion between a game forum and another live chat venue is disruptive for people who are interested in getting updates. And over time you guys aren't going to want to maintain/harmonize two depots of information.

Like from a community management perspective, I'd say this is a non-trivial matter. Discussion and membership was increasing on the forums, now everyone's over there and this place has been really quiet.

I might be wrong. Something to think about, though. For myself, I was pretty annoyed when I finally jumped on Discord and saw how much dev discussion I missed. I imagine I'm not the only one who would feel that way.

To be fair these forums were pretty quiet before the invester alpha started, and peaked when people had to log in to see the download link. Now things have calmed down because there's not much to talk about. Of course, there's a lot of talk on discord because it's a more casual setting, people were already using other discords, oh and discord has direct messages. But there will always be reasons for people to use both.

Discord is a little less focused and we're not ready to break it up into 20 different channels. For discussion about specific things you can get more attention and more people participating (in theory) on the forums. Also... a better chance of us seeing it as Discord gets pretty "spammy" sometimes...
