I don't know the DCUO devs personally but most devs are hard working people trying to make a living and create something fun, exciting and interesting so please don't let one (possibly) bad apple ruin your view of their whole team.

Would prefer we not bad mouth other games or devs here in general.

Thanks!

More than a few apples, but I get that they are your friends, but whatever, I will lay off. They are still shady and arrogant, if other game forums and another dev from a different game dev has something to say about it you are pretty bad. Everyone is talking about that blowup. I know the DCUO, Marvel, and CoT forum fans are talking about it. Come out and tell fans their creations are not a priority is crap, idk how anyone spins it.

Interesting find on the Titan forums but I think its a bit blown out of proportion. I occasionally lurk around on the DC forums and the few Devs left there might tend to get a bit cynical and defensive which why not great is something I at least understand. DCUO is running on smallest possible resources to keep it running without making it shrinking; shamefully small considering the big DC brand (even more so with its current cinematic & TV presence) behind it. The character creator they have is solid. Its definitely weaker than the CO and even more so than the CoX one but its better than in most other MMOs and good enough for unique looking chars. Having only a tiny amount of resources and an active player base that is happy with the char gen as it is I do understand their decision to keep focus on new stuff for existing chars.

PS: Someone with an Titan forum account should tell that Lothic (http://http://cityoftitans.com/comment/111265#comment-111265) guy/gal that DC has a char creator and is meant to be played with an unique char; legends gameplay with iconic chars is an optional diversion :P

IMO the big problems of all the big the super MMOs (CO, DCUO and the late CoX) is that they where to obsessed with the core stuff (Superhero action gameplay) and not enough interested to create a MMO world with an Superhero setting. And now they sit on a massive pile of complex code to big and complicated to do anything meaningful with it with the 2,5 devs left per game and big pubs behind them not being interested in the risk to open the "warchest" to bring these titles to a next evolutionary stage. I mean its fun to beat up stuff with the next to perfect character but it takes only so much time to get stale which is why all of them only have so small audiences. No side "offcape" activities, no sidekick customization, no "bat-mobiles"/vehicles/vehicle customization, no personal storyline (but I appreciate COs Nemesis system; even if its just barebones and not being touched since forever). If it where not for me (and most likely others) being a DC fan getting the itch to play after each new DC TV episode or movie it would probably even worse there.

If Valiance delivers what they aim to do (assuming deep visual and ability customization together with awesome combat gameplay as a given) with my interest being high on "immersive role playing systems" & "secret identity features" (valiance.shogn.net/) it might be the death-knell to CO & DCUO.

I wanted to create an account and respond to those guys calling DCUO players crybabies, but held my peace. I thought for sure I created one awhile back, guess not. For the most part they were correct.

the character creator they have is far from solid. Have you seen those beginning skins? dcuniverseonline.wikia.com/wiki/Skin_Styles

Poorly done, and they admitted it was not a priority with their actions over the course of five years and their current words.

Games get to the point of functioning on limited staff and resources due to prior mishaps. Cause and effect, bad things just don't happen. They were a result of bad decisions, such as screw the character creator. DCUO has been blowing off the character creator since 2011, and here we are five years later.

As someone posted, DCUO's character creator is weaker than other games running on older game engines of the same series. How is that?

DCUO is sinking quickly and they have nobody to blame but themselves. Damn near 60 million dollar budget and this is what you have to show for it? I believe you gotta pay bills being branded, I get it, but it is what it is.

'course I have. Have created quite a few characters there. As I did in CO, dozens of other MMOs and countless RPGs.

So: Yes, its solid. Its not great; its not very great; its even less so totally awesome. But its better than most I saw. Sure; compared to CoX & CO its the worst of them. But that list is, at least for me, to short to be relevant.

Otherwise yeah: They ran that car into the wall all by themselves and decorated it with a bad first gameplay impression on top. You can only have one first gameplay impression; and with something like an MMO you have to drag everyone telling you to release unfinished because money into a basement and give him a nasty beating. I mean it did not even had a f*cking chat system at start. Even now I could list a big pile of stuff which makes DCUO a lousy MMO compared to others; and most likely a lot of it is found in its console dependency.

But thats not why I play it occasionally; I do it because of the stuff I like. I do not think its sinking quickly anymore; it did that quite some time ago. Right now its more-or-less stable with a small player-base; being in the lucky position to be 50% of the superhero CRPG market (MMO and Singleplayer together; excluding those that have no character gen at all) helps with some ppl overlooking some bad design decisions ;)

The sad thing? I could not even be mad at them. The bad apples; the big decision makers; driving that car against the wall are most likely already in some other company right now getting obscene amount of cash to do it all over again. And those devs that are left do give a dedicated and able impression; but they are too small to make any relevant change without scarlet blading DCUO out of existence.

It is bad for an MMO, for example, Dynasty Warriors has a better creator than DCUO.

Vendetta aside, because bashing other games on an upcoming project's forums is not necessarily a good look for the project, therefore I will back off. I don't even play that game anymore, and I suck at being bitter, it last for about a hour or so, but anyway, i just wish to talk about DCUO happenings in general, without the shade, but with all the realness.

forums.daybreakgames.com/dcuo/index.php?...time-capsule.282844/

Has anyone seen anything like this? Apparently the players are bothered by these capsule thingies and DB's business model which, I really don't know much about, the capsules that is. They say it is a huge money grab.

I actually predicted this sometime ago on DB forums because I am an MMO veteran. I have seen this movie before. When they first introduced the capsules, I told the players DCUO will face a dark period which will give games like CoT a chance. This cash grabbing stuff never really works (Hopefully VO does not do this hehe ;) ). I suppose players are finally fed up, but I think it is more along the lines of DCUO burnout. DCUO is a rather old game, players are looking for someone to blame, but I think it may just be burnout.

The capsules are not a bad idea perse, just executed poorly, therefore the gamble is obvious.

This may be a little "Sharky" or " Predatory" but this is a business of players. With DCUO players fed up and putting their foot down. I feel that this could be the shining light for games like VO and CoT to swoop in and play the hero (No pun intended).
