Hello my fellow forum dwellers and devs!

I was thinking about the potential powersets in each archetypes, and I thought about one particular concept that I don't know if it's something the devs considered or not but would be a cool powerset to have.

So this powerset I'm thinking about is a Pet Control powerset. Instead of calling on the help of soldier, robots or demons, you would clone yourself, so we could simply call it "Clones".

The Clone powerset would summon specialized clones of yourself. It would have a tank type and brawler type and perharps a special one that would retain all of your stats and abilities (of course you would only be able to summon one at a time and there would be a huge skill refresh time).

This powerset would be fidel to most of the superhero universes where some sort of cloning power exist and I think it would be something relatively easy to implement.

Anyway, that's an idea I had. As I said, I don't know what Pet Control powersets the devs thought about, so this may well be an useless post after all, but I think it would be an interesting mechanic.

What do you guys think?

Mr. Gemini, an NPC from CO had this power, and people kept asking for it and it was never delivered. VO however has the potential to actually make this power work, being a new game with dedicated developers.

I vote yes on this one. Could also possibly be included in an illusion power, where you can project images of yourself all around to confuse the foe. Overall though, great idea.

Love it, and yeah you could easily use it as an illusion type of thing too if you wanted. Always wanted to be able to play as Multiple Man :cheer:

I like the idea, but how would it work, especially from a progression point of view? With traditional pets, the play style is more about controlling minions. I feel like a clone situation would want to feel a little more...independent. Like the clones would be a bit more self-directed.

Turning this type of powerset into a split screen would be absolutely awesome, where you could pick an avatar to actively control and have the others switch to an autopilot/"keep doing what you're doing (patrol, fight, escort, move to x, etc.)" mode. Maybe progression is about increasing the complexity of tasks, or something. Or, like, adding a full defense clone and a full offense clone, splitting abilities proportionately as necessary, etc.

I think that play style would be distinct from pet types, where it's more typical to have a field-general, directing-the-troops feel.

It could definitely still play like pets.
While I'm not suggesting anything be exactly like CoH, the clones could work like the Gang Mastermind set.

What you are suggesting is a bit complicated in term of mechanic. I agree that powersets should feel different from one another, but they should also be easily implementable and not too complicated for the user to control.

Here's a suggestion I think would help make the Clones powerset stand out. If instead of having a split screen situation you had the ability to simply select one of your clones and switch place with it? That would make this powerset's mechanic absolutely unique!

Yeah, something. I don't know how it would be done. I just kind of feel like clones should be more like teammates than pets. Switching places would probably be easier than a split screen. I was just trying to think of an idea where it felt like the clones were truly autonomous.

Clones for pets?

Oh-ho-ho, mix that in with a hammer and now I've got Proletariat from Sentinels of the Multiverse.

Logged in to suggest Cloning as a power and
well it's already here!

I'd also love to see it! It'd be cool if clone-using heroes had identical stats to their pets, even if it's by hitting them with a big debuff the moment they have more than one, but make up for it with the fact that their pets have access to their secondary power set. Or, if you hit 0 HP, you take control over one of your clones... :P
