Please make Combat require a lot of movement.

the majority of game players are casual not hard core. Too much movement to fight will drive people away

seriously there are tons of studies on the majority of game players, google is your friend

Majority are casual, solo, pve focused, with over 40% being female etc etc. USE GOOGLE and cater to the majority if you wish to make a profit and realize that catering to the always very LOUD minority will hurt the game

I don't know what you're talking about as many action games are full of causal players. and are you implying that female players are somehow less skilled or less able to deal with actual interesting combat which requires some level of skill and actual movement? careful there.

I can tell a lot of people who don't want movement in combat have probably never tried the games I have played which require it..

I can tell a lot of people that want to require players bouncing around like a jackrabbit on speed have never tried the games that didnt require it. see how that works? Having different mob types having different mechanics give variety. even having some that require you not to move. variety is the spice of life.

Please don't make this game into WoW.
We already have to move to line up cone attacks.

Nobody is asking for THAT much movement. don't be ridiculous. It just needs to not reward stationary turretting over skill.

If you're looking for a game where you don't have to move to avoid enemy attacks I suggest chess, I hear its survived a very long time and is still healthy and popular. oh wait.. you do kinda do that in chess...

constant movement isnt skill. Understanding different mechanics, not just bouncing around like a demented jackrabbit is skill. Why is it so important to you to keep everyone moving? Lets have a variety, not just every mob making you jump. knowing that sappers must be killed first, watch out for KOA caltrops, stay away from exploding crystals. Those kind of mechanics actually take skill to learn and handle. Random jumping? not so much.

Movement is fun. Reacting to mechanics, moving away from dangerous things, avoiding enemy attacks, this is what I'm talking about. Super heroes are rarely stationary turrets. Maybe if you're hulk. but even hulk could run really fast to ram things.

oh noez, don't make this game like the most successful mmorpg ever in existence. At WoW's height it had like 11 million subscribers and is down now to about 5.5 Million after YEARS!!!!! Any and all game developers would sell their children to have 5.5 million subscribers

Even now at it's decline it is the most profitable MMORPG. They obviously did and continue to do something right as vs everyone else

I don't even play WoW BUT only idiots dismiss WoW's success

The point of this game in the end is to make the developers a profit thus they must cater to the majority as vs the always loud and complaining minority

Correct, and calling the people who want combat to require SOME level of paying attention and moving your character around a "loud and complaining minority"
is backwards.

More action oriented combat or fighting game style combat is more fun and dynamic and would even make grinding a bit less of a pain. Also makes PvP a little more interactive and skill based.

Everyone has their own opinion, I think you've pretty clearly stated yours by this point. Repeating it over and over (and failing to identify with anyone's but your own) isn't going to make anyone change theirs.

"If we want combat to be fun and engaging some amount of movement is going to be necessary."

You use the word "we" but your opinion is your own.

My opinion is shared by almost all of my friends. So I'm definitely not alone.

I challenge you to name a game with fun and engaging combat where people are able to just stand motionless and pound on each other as a viable strategy B)

I mean you can always play chess or some turn based RPG if static combat appeals to you? even then, to be fair those are entirely different kinds of games where that kind of combat makes sense.

MMORPGs were born out of turn based games, and have always had a legacy of more strategy than action. Recent games have definitely favored action, but they aren't MMORPGs.

my opinion is shared by my legions of friends and loyal minions, so I win. Many games dont require you to bounce around like a loon for every fight and they seem to be plenty fun for their fans.

Honestly, just make combat resemble what we had in COH and you will be fine.

Well fortunately for you everyone is telling me combat was the same in CoH as it is in CO, and all I really want is combat to be at least as good as CO.

what exactly does constant movement do to make combat special that dealing with other mechanics doesnt do the same for you? why does jumping constantly make it good for you but dealing with a sapper or a shielding enemy doesnt do it for you? why is constant movement the gold standard?

isnt it amazing what PR will do, i beta tested WOW it only got crappier after launch but you have 100s of dedicated PR staff and you get popular despite how many better alternatives their might be, just like they keep getting new 14yr olds joining to this day, its like pop music completely vacuous but profitable so long as angsty 14yr olds looking for acceptance exist

please dont make all classes require heaps of movement maybe certain classes, not all classes though. some of us live in country's run by neo cons so we will never have proper internet so we cant play games that require lots of movement because of lag issues

i played original CoH and the one thing that made me quit....was when you shot/punched/kicked..etc...the game locked you down unable to move till the power cycled. Man i hated that and it seemed to unrealistic. I asked this question sometime back and i really hope they address this. :)

Bottom line is VO isn't going to be exactly city of heroes and city of heroes is a 12 year old game now.

Ya CoH is 12 years old and still one of the best MMO's ever made the lore was great the customization was near endless the base building was one of the BEST ever done in ANY MMO the RP community was 100% the best in any MMO ever and CoH still has a fan base even after the game closed so age don't mean jack considering it did it better then most games past and present.
